On January 1, 2019, millions of New Year’s Resolutions were written down on paper. By February, 80% of those resolutions are dead. And in my case, they are usually dead in a week – utter failures. That sure does put a negative spin on my new year.
Enough of that! I don’t need that kind of negativity in my life. There will be no more pressure of new year’s resolutions on my plate. This is one of those things I refer to as a stressor. Stressors be gone!
So, what now? It’s time to stop resolving to do things that add guilt to my life. Instead, this year, I made an attainable list of goals. Some were very short term; like get the dog’s toenails in check (literally, that’s on the list!) There are financial goals. Then there are personal goals: continue family game night, watch less television, purge personal belongings. And let’s not forget the health goals – jog x miles, do x pushups without stopping, spend more time in daily devotion and prayer (balance people… balance). And finally, let’s add a little life to the party: let’s try something new this year. For me, it’s going snow skiing for the first time. Bunny slopes, here I come! It may not sound like much to you, but I am pumped! Life is short. This may be the last year we have, so the time is NOW. And unlike resolutions, the best part about goals is they do not die. I may not hit my goal by the original deadline, but the goal itself is still attainable. I just keep pressing forward.
Let’s press forward together folks. Share one of your resolutions, I mean goals below.
